Tales of Globalisation From Burkina Faso


The issue of globalisation, which continues to overshadow matters relating to poverty, environment, development, immigration and integration, has also caught the attention of artists who give their share of views through their artistic creations. Indeed, a recent exhibition of photographs shot in Nepal, India, Bosnia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Angola, Sierra Leone, Liberia, France, Belgium and Iceland - that commented on various issues relating to globalisation - took place in the centre of Koudougou, Burkina Faso. Realising MDGs through Culture

 A four-day seminar, organised and funded by Mundial Productions, a cultural outfit based in Tilburg Netherlands, that brought together several organisations and institutions from different countries with a common goal of contributing to the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs) through culture ended last week in the Burkinabe town of Koudougou.The seminar sought to find effective ways of building cultural entrepreneurship, artistic development and overall artists' collaboration as a development tool. Ezra wins top FESPACO award

Fespaco 2007

The Nigerian film Ezra has won the top prize at the biennial African Film Festival, FESPACO, in Burkina Faso. The festival is the major showcase for the continent's films, many of which are not widely distributed. Ezra, the story of a child soldier in the decade-long Sierra Leone civil war, was a popular winner at a lively closing ceremony. Pan African Film & Television Festival of Ouagadougou

Pan African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO)The theme for 2007's festival is "The actor in the creation & promotion of African films". Created in 1969, the FESPACO is the largest African film festival; it mostly focuses on the African film & African filmmakers. The festival is for film industry professionals. FESPACO’s stated aim is to "contribute to the expansion and development of African cinema as means of expression, education and awareness-raising".
